Honey Wins Super Bowl
Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

This week, honey is making headlines in the most unexpected way: by serving as the MVP of ingredients for the White House Super Bowl bash. The most talked about item on the menu for the big game was a homemade batch of honey ale. The ale was brewed with one pound of honey from the White House Bee Hive and was sampled by 200 guests.

This isn’t the first occasion that the White House has made use of its hive; honey was a staple ingredient in last month’s state dinner with Chinese President Hu Jintao. In addition, the first lady frequently gives honey as gifts to guest of the White House.

There are limitless ways in which honey can liven up recipes and the White House honey ale is just one example. For those of you who aren’t home brewing enthusiasts, try Sam Adams Honey Porter a full-flavored, full-bodied English porter with a substantial roasted malt character brewed with honey to offer a smooth, rounded finish.
