Today's reality television stars are now cake bakers. Sounds implausible, but shows such as "Cake Boss" and "Ace of Cakes" have brought baking to the forefront, and made bakers the modern day artists. The success has not made Rossberg complacent though. Quite the opposite, in fact. This first generation baker continues to improve his skills as a baker, and even teaches cake decorating classes at a local community college. His services are in high demand thanks to a growing interest in decorated cakes. "With the advent of shows like 'Ace of Cake,' our customers are doing more research and coming to us with some really creative ideas," Rossberg says. "There is a lot more information available about the abilities of decorators, and that makes us better and raises the bar for everyone." At Torrance Bakery, success lies in quality ingredients and exceptional baking techniques. One of the bakery's most important ingredients is honey, which is used as the main ingredient in a simple syrup that is brushed on all of the bakery's cakes. "We use honey in almost all of our products," Rossberg explains. "In our cakes, the honey hydrates the cakes by sealing them and prevents them from drying up. The ingredient also adds a nice sweetening factor." As decorated cakes continue to grow in popularity, so will this 25-year old bakery.
